Alright, well, I know he emailed me to let me know I had a broken link in a post. And I know he was interested in what that link led to, which made me think well of him, so I emailed him back. In less than 5 emails, in fact. This is perhaps my most important rule of thumb, whether writing books, blog posts, or emails.

Email the owners and offer to guest post or to do an interview. Like carrying a business card. Branching out is a great gig—I make friends, I expand my thinking, I have a laugh, and it even has positive business results. Stay branded as whoever you are! If you’re Dick the Cupcake Maker, then be that guy.

Here's a tip: you talk to, email several people a day. I also can use the recording to make a cd and give to potential clients or current clients instead of a business card or brochure. 1) Send an email response. 2) Turn your email into a blog post - at least 250 words, spell-checked and edited. (3) 2) Recycle.
