E-mail is no longer just for personal use, with all our accepted short forms: LOL, U, GB and a co-workers favourite, OMG! With the increasing use of e-mail as the first choice for business correspondence it opens a whole new world of dos and donts for the assistant. Writing all in caps is a form of e-mail shouting.

It seems like the tickler file is a good place to keep the papers that go along with the tasks, but there still feels like there's some redundancy when I prioritize my to-dos that are in the form of paper and the daily to-dos on my calendar. Business Cards Are Nice Too Now, what do you do if you have some human powered work force, some OCR software to do the dirty job for you and a lot of audience (Shoeboxed is pretty popular, you know)? Just this: If you are trying to give yourself a shortcut by not asking for your clients’ permission before you sign them up for your sales list, newsletter, or any other form of unsolicited information, you’re shooting yourself in the foot. So what does all of this have to do with being an entrepreneur, a copywriter, or a freelancer?

Web forms (like Gravity Forms) are great for this. Use Foursquare and find out the businesses listed in your neighbourhood. Go to their website, look up the required information and walk through their doors with a smile and a business card. Lastly, make sure there’s an easy way to contact you on that page.

Doesn’t have an office and most of the time doesn’t have business cards either (the new dial tone being twitter , of course).
