Jen Liao and Caleb Wang are second-generation Chinese Americans, and the husband and wife team first opened Xiao Chi Jie (XCJ) as a single restaurant serving Chinese street food in Seattle’s Bellevue neighborhood in 2018. In March 2020, faced with a looming pandemic, XCJ was forced to close indoor dining and pivot.
