My father, the star of our family, died at the start of 2019. Before 2019 was out, I’d turn 40, Laura and I would each accept unexpected job offers and a publisher would sign me up for a book deal. In 2017, I left my job as the editor of a magazine to freelance and spend time with my dad in his final years. Laura was pregnant.
