If you can prove yourself as a good worker you can go up through the ranks and because they already know how you work, they are more apt to promote you. If a more experienced assistant comes alongside you and provides mentoring - dont refuse it. I have seen admin assistants climb up the corporate ladder just that way. Introducing Goo.

That one unassuming, non-meaty, first temp gig got me my first CEO EA job and eventually my promotion to project manager down the road. Know your goal and work backwards and figure out a vague flexible timeline of goals and promotions needed. Just being in their presence means being informally mentored by osmosis.
