Volunteering to help train a veteran in the latest skills needed at your company. Reaching out to a veteran's organization and offering to help write resumes, make contacts, etc.

Employers have to weed through hundreds of resumes for even the most basic jobs, so they immediately discard ones where the skills don’t match their requirements. Don’t be desperate.

The only thing I could think to do after a few moments of waiting was to offer my resume. They decide to take the call.
