Gone are the days when their responsibilities were confined to maintaining org charts and existing processes. Before leaving, I was able to spend a few days going over the binder with my temp. I was asked to share my binder with the legal secretaries in my division in our Chicago and Washington, D.C.

I was out of work, temping here and there for a year. It is good to be employed, but what if you are in the process of looking and just can’t find a job? Don’t underestimate the value of temping. Working for a temp agency can either land you a full-time job or help to keep you employed while you are looking.

If appropriate and true, during the interview process, you can mention you take the time to have lunch with other assistants, interns, or other co-workers just to understand them better as people, the office environment, and pick their brain for advice. I mention how I worked for all my CEOs because I was recruited away as a temp.

They ensure consistency of work results by creating a step-by-step process (a road map, if you will) of your responsibilities so that you are more productive. Flow Charts You might decide a flow chart will better illustrate the logic behind how your business process flows. Its that simple. Business systems are beneficial, too.

And then the process begins again with new ideas and new ways of doing business being developed as the old ones become stale. Producers: these people execute a repeatable process. Improvers: these people upgrade, change or make a repeatable process better. This is the fourth job.
