She shared how her working career began back in Iowa, working as a temp worker scanning a seemingly endless supply of documents. All the other temps quit, some after only one day! She became an observer, learning to understand the person she supported, learning their values and thought patterns.

I have to be honest in that I have heard some unhappy stories from APs this year who have lost their jobs or are being replaced by temps on a regular basis! Don't be so full of yourself that you think you can't learn or grow. That is my gift to you on this first day of April. So my advice to you is to never rest on your laurels.

One of the most surprising things for me was to learn that not all companies will give you an expense account or a company credit card. Have money for group gifts. Alternately, you could say you only had X amount of dollars in your wallet and give that, offer to write a check, or give your own gift by baking cookies or something.

Whenever I meet people for coffee or a meal, I am always interested to learn about them as a person and their work. I love doing informationals because I like learning about what people do, even if I am not in that industry, and perhaps get an office tour down the line, and make a new friend if they introduce me to someone else.
