If you can prove yourself as a good worker you can go up through the ranks and because they already know how you work, they are more apt to promote you. If a more experienced assistant comes alongside you and provides mentoring - dont refuse it. I have seen admin assistants climb up the corporate ladder just that way.

Constantly you should be having interactions and it should just be a never–ending process of learning and growing and getting better and building relationships and having interactions, and that’s the type of environment we want to promote. They’re still mentors. We have some employees that do that. They still do a great job.

Jeanne Achille also was disappointed with the hiring of a recent college hire, promoted by a university professor as a “superstar” and fired after three weeks when it was discovered she spent hours online at work visiting a dating site. Perhaps the newly hired employee should be mentored a bit more by his/her boss.
