Set a time to make/take phone calls. Instead of answering the phone whenever it rings consider setting aside an hour or so each day specifically for taking and making phone calls. I’ve written before about how much time can be consumed in your day by a phone call. Create and use an info packet. Do you hate invoicing?

In fact, I’ve been using it for just about eight months now, but I now have a better perspective about the pros and cons of the phone that excludes the initial new-ness impressions. What I Don’t Like I believe the phone was designed with the light non-business user in mind. I kick myself for discounting this lag.

No delicate tippy-tapping on the keyboard for me. The next time you get an email that seems to be a thinly veiled jab – or even an outright insult – to you or your work, take a deep breath, wait a bit, and write back a quick email that asks if you can discuss this either via online chat or over the phone the next day.

I am not a freelancer as such but I do work from home and I’ve training my boss and colleagues to stop arranging meetings after 4pm (still working on that one), I’ve been forcing myself to step away from the keyboard and to stop checking work emails after hours. You have plenty of time left for that client.

It’s fun, but it’s not like I sit at my keyboard, occasionally throwing my arms into the air and squealing, “Wheeeeeee! As if getting them on the phone is too expensive, like it used to be. Because even today (sigh), it is too expensive for me to get hundreds of people on the phone every day. . “That’s what I want.”
