Many of my clients have asked me to help them prep for a phone interview. The interviewer can’t see you – there is not opportunity to gauge body language or make the same kind of connection. Referenced on your resume and your cover letter should be the best number(s) to reach you. What do you do on the phone?

your hobbies, schooling, technical skills etc). Be upfront in your cover letter. Now I’ve said it a hundred times before in my blogs, that the cover letter is the opportunity to sell yourself. And remembering, that the first one to two pages must encapsulate the most important things.

Below this, add short segments listing your skills and abilities, then your professional experience for the past 10 years, then your education and accolades, limiting the entire resume to no more than two pages total. I have also participated in several fruitful phone screens, and I have an onsite interview scheduled in the coming days.

Speaking of links, if you have an ugly website with horrible copy that doesn’t reflect your skills, please don’t tell us. That said, don’t apply for internet jobs when you just came online, have no skills, no experience, but can definitely learn everything as you go along. Because we won’t. Request, that is.
