After a few years of becoming their Head Receptionist and not learning anything new I was ready for a new challenge. Find yourself a mentor that you look up to. I would also learn earlier on how to train yourself to switch off. Do you have advisors / board members / mentors that have helped with the network?

Everywhere you go…there’s somebody new to learn to know! The great thing is that networking is a “soft skill” that can be learned by anyone. Ask questions and learn about the members near you. Recently, I asked someone I’d met that very day how mentoring opportunities and networking had helped her grow in her career.

A place to come, learn and realise that there was at least one other PA that felt the same way you did and was facing the same every day issues you were (and some of the triumphs too!) notes about work (travel arrangements and preferences for my charges, “rules” I have for each of them, team notes, etc.).

Yes, Outlook Training and Training in Supporting a University Committee. Yes, I have taken job-specific software classes, classes to learn organizational and people skills, and took computer certification classes which I was not aware I needed coming right out of high school. Not for my career, only training for Microsoft Office etc.
