I know it is often the first aspect of my identity that people refer to when they describe me. I also know I learned I was Black in first grade. And that was the day I learned what Blackness meant. Unconscious bias refers to the bias that we all hold, informed by social stereotypes, about various identity groups.

(I learned this the hard way when I was in 6th grade and the adult I was with locked her keys in the car during a terrible snow storm. Have your clothes laid out, your briefcase or the kids’ backpacks, and whatever else you need to take with you, all set out. Assume they want to learn. Clutter Free Up Your Time!

One of the lessons I learned early on was that it's easy to be busy and think you are being productive. I learned my lesson really quickly. I learned that as a business owner my focus has to be on my customers and sales, not busy work and errands. Focus On Customers, Not Tasks.
