As with most things, knowing where you’re going will help you get to your end result faster, and hopefully on budget. If all that’s required is giving up a weekend or two to an online conference or seminar, then the effort may be worth it for the payoff. How will taking this class/seminar/program help me get to my ultimate goal?

My new career was straight commission—zero salary. Don’t Budget. I was told by everyone in my industry, including the executives in my office, that there would be no market for teaching seminars about women and money. I kept doing the seminars, and two years later, I decided to write a book about women and money.

Who said it was smart to give a one-hour free seminar, speech or workshop almost every single day? Businesspeople understand investment, as opposed to cost. They have a budget. Prices always tend towards marginal costs. That salary came from advertising purchased by business to air on my station. No way, dude.
