It's not near as much fun as say, watching to see if Lady Gaga will show up covered in raw eggs and bran cereal, but it's something I feel I need to do for my job. People depend on me to give them job hunting advice that will help them get out of the unemployment ranks. Today, the news wasn't so great.

There's enough instability right now in the economy that everyone -- and I mean everyone -- needs to be in active job-hunting mode. That means in addition to ramping up your networking efforts, you need to immediately take steps to clean up your online footprint. Google covers most of the Web, but MSN and Yahoo!

That one unassuming, non-meaty, first temp gig got me my first CEO EA job and eventually my promotion to project manager down the road. The short answer is create your own luck, network for mutually beneficial relationships, give back, know your unique selling point, be proactive, and be humble and grateful.
