At the Assist Conference last year we had a session on personal branding and the speaker asked each of us ‘what are you good at?’ There has just been the big Office Dynamics conference in the States on this very subject and EUMA are about to hold a training session in Manchester called From Stressed to Strategic. There were many free training sessions for assistants to attend and the exhibitors were all relevant suppliers to the industry which again is not always the case with these types of events! In many conversations that I have with assistants one of the topics that always comes up is the lack of training opportunities that we receive.

The only upside in my example is that I was the client, so I haven’t lost business, just a good supplier. You have to have a lot of training before you can be trusted to wield it in public without hurting people. It continues to bother me that I may have over reacted. I won’t do the same next time.
