Get references, if you can. Anybody who has been in business for 12 month or more should be able to give you at least one or two references. In reference to your point 6 i completely believe that at some point businesses should be self sufficient however there are a lot of product/manufacturing related industries in trouble because of it and to some degree it is their own fault because they should be self sufficient. I believe we will be out of recession by early next year.
