I was recently given additional responsibilities of becoming our IS Summer Intern Program Coordinator and providing support for Dr. Stanley Huff, our Chief Medical Informatics Officer, a world-renown medical informaticist.

When you are trying to create change, whether in a process or for the administrative community in your organization, it is much easier to be persuasive when there is a group. When administrative professionals work together, there is less duplication, resulting in savings to the company and increased profitability.

As wonderful as online learning can be, going to a live conference or seminar with other assistants is something that you should try to do a few times a year. All you need is to put some time aside and close your door, or put some earphones on, and plug into your computer and learn. I think I am just not used to having to think about me.

Internal e-mails amongst co-workers should have a business tone to it as well, although less formal. I also learned at a "Working Smarter with Microsoft Outlook" seminar that we should not use e-mails as urgent requests. Anyway, it taught me to re-read, more than once if necessary, an e-mail that I think is negative. 411 Look Up 411.ca
