" Earlier in the survey the term independent worker is defined to include freelancing, temping, self-employment, etc.    As you can see from the chart below, 14% responded probably/definitely in 2011 and 13% responded probably/definitely in 2012.

 The Economic Policy Institute's The Class of 2012 lays out how the job situation is for those 25 and younger.  Between 2000 and 2011 real wages for high school workers under age 25 fell by 11.1%. The grim job market is a key reason more young Americans are pursuing work as independents (temps, freelancers, etc.).

One of the more interesting data points from the MBO Partners State of Independence surveys is how independent workers (freelancers, temps, self-employed, etc.)   In our 2012 survey, 39% of the respondents said independent work is more secure than traditional employment. look at job security.
