I wrote a blog on this issue a few months ago which looked at how assistants can get over their initial nerves and go to a conference or trade show, you can find that here. Delegates were also using the water bottles during the conference as they were next to all of the water machines – I thought this marketing was very clever!

You answer the phone, book travel, offer beverages to guests, book meetings, prepare the conference room, order food, etc. If you have to purchase stuff for your boss - ask to xerox the credit card, both front and back now. Should you be brainstorming business gifts for the holidays?

I’m working on taking time off for visits, but in the meantime I’ll reconnect the old-fashioned way by writing, sending cards throughout the year; little gifts the family might enjoy, too. Cut up credit cards. This year, my 50th, I’ll make changes. Last time we spoke, we agreed life’s just too short. Too short, indeed.

When selecting a platform , you’ll want to ask: What are the monthly subscription fees and credit card processing fees? Sales, discount codes and free gifts. I’ll use my writer training business to illustrate: Every time we participate in a writers’ conference, we see an influx of new customers.

Imagine sheets of paper fluttering to the flow behind you as you charge from one meeting to the next conference call. When your credit card statement comes in, and after you have paid the bill, place the statement along with your month-end bank statement in the file folder. Not only is this overwhelming, it is ineffective.
