I keep projects, priorities, and tasks separate using a departmentalization technique from the Family Manager® Hit List. Current tasks flow onto that Hit List on a weekly basis from a categorized journal where I map out multi-step projects and store priority reminders, and from my calendar. I start each day knowing what I need to do.

At the end of the day, your desk should have little more on it than your computer, keyboard, mouse pad, phone, and perhaps a framed photograph of a loved one. I have folders for ‘Clients,’ ‘Projects,’ ‘Music,’ ‘Pictures,’ and ‘Personal.’ When something doesn’t have a home, it stays on your desk and clutter builds.

When the results were in, I met with the person who administered it and one of the things it showed, other than the fact that I ranked very high in administration, was that I work best on short-term projects where I can see the end in sight. I will have all kinds of energy to work on a project if I know it is ending at one point.

If it is a big project I use a calendar and write down all my required to-dos on the dates I need to get them done to make my deadline. There are different styles of to-do lists and you can use the one that suits your work style and the type of project you are doing, but the main thing is to have one. I relied on the Franklin Covey Planner for YEARS in the corporate environment long before Web 2.0; Those who lose track of time might want a system with a programmable alarm, left-brain types generally need lots of space for lists, while creative folks might prefer a less linear "mind-map" way of organizing projects and to-do's.

Make sure that tasks directly associated with clients come first, consider the financial impact of a project and its completion date on the company, don’t let deadlines control the priority list (expense reports can wait when there are more important tasks), and consider cause and effect (do A to enable B, which accomplishes C).

I think there are tons of monetization models (and one of my projects is figuring out the essential monetization patterns for info products.) What follows is me thinking into my keyboard. Games and virtual environments (difficult to create as a learning tool). In that regard, there really isn’t anything new.
