I enjoyed having a full QWERTY keyboard without all of the keys, in such compact form factor. That meant it had to replace my notebook computer on many fronts, such as provide an alternate path to social networking, email, note-taking, Google Apps, music, video, and some tangentially interesting games.

I will get a keyboard or piano and learn to play it. Nonetheless, here’s my 2013 year in preview… I will write another book. But only one…a much bigger one. I will dive deeper into making more things for people to use to help them be more productive. I will go to less events…but make more of an impact at them.

I’m not presenting an argument that Android phones (G1, myTouch, CLIQ, Droid, and the newly debuted Nexus One – THE Google Phone ) will win over any other phone. Google Apps did everything except Tasks. I used to use Google Documents for this purpose. Google Sky provides you with just that. Problem solved.

A change of pace and scenery can do wonders, and I have found that simply by walking away that I have a renewed sense of vigor when I return to the keyboard. Often I’ll do the dishes or tidy up around the house in order to get my mind in a place where it can start to tackle the work challenges once again.

What’s worse is that as the keyboard is getting more use, it’s not as sensitive. I like that there are various applications available for the phone, like Google Maps, Facebook, and the video camera app that comes standard with it. So, browsing through that list typing one character at a time is not that pleasant.

Typing addresses is easy with both the on-screen and the slide-out keyboard. Among the applications, I enjoy having a Google Search app that I can both type into and use a voice command with. The Google Map rocks too. What I Like So Far With that said, there’s still a lot I like about the device.

Our organization uses Google Apps for our e-mail, calendar and cloud solution. Unlike traditional e-mail, Google Apps utilizes labels instead of a folder system for e-mail sorting and storage. On a daily basis, I make liberal use of the following two keyboard keys: 1. Facebook updates go directly into a Facebook folder, etc.

In the Advanced/General preferences panel, you can set Postbox to use Gmail’s keyboard shortcuts and you can also create events within Google Calendar for detected dates. Along with our multiple work passwords, we have a password for our home computer, and if we sign up for Facebook, Twitter or any other website, we have another password to remember. The nice thing about on-line sites is for the most part they are free, but what they dont charge in fees they can take up in time, as many of us have experienced with sites such as Facebook. Two of the most used applications on my iPhone (apart from all the social media apps for Twitter and Facebook ) are iBlueSky and Voice Recorder. During those times the only inbox I check regularly (apart from my Twitter stream), is my mail inbox. Mobile Capturing Devices I own an iPhone and I use it.
