Would you search online for Anne Potter before writing her an email? Compounding the problem was the president giving me an @comcast.net email address.

Turn off the phone while working and don’t answer every call. Let the answering machine pick up the phone and focus on getting that work out of the way. Cut out anything that isn’t critical to your business survival for two full weeks – blog commenting, RSS reading, social media, IM chats and emailing friends.

Throughout the months of phone calls, backtracking, moving forward, and backtracking again, there was a lot of confusion. That means possibly posting something to your blog, sending out a press release, tweeting a public notice or emailing clients. My phone plressed the return key and it submitted. A lot of hurt feelings.

Alright, well, I know he emailed me to let me know I had a broken link in a post. And I know he was interested in what that link led to, which made me think well of him, so I emailed him back. In less than 5 emails, in fact. This is perhaps my most important rule of thumb, whether writing books, blog posts, or emails.

I think that was also the day when I started to use my app as an excuse for not going out or as a standard answer at the phone. I also added a Help and FAQ section. Felt somehow special and fancy, mainly because of the name of the new framework: Quartz Core. No more arguing or negotiating, I just started to code it. Loads of bugs.
