Then there are times when I am bored out of my mind and start either asking others for work or updating the company database. If they prompt you to get it done right away (if this is not your immediate supervisor), make sure to let your manager know. They are there to help, since they are managing you.

I always need to keep myself occupied with some sort of task, whether it be filing, updating our companys database with client information, etc. It really does make the time go by faster, especially during the slow periods, which doesnt happen too often for me. I would be able to do work without too many interruptions , have quiet time, since the walls and the closed door (at times) would stop the noise from reaching in. I work in a large firm now where it’s mainly an open concept area, with only the managers having their own offices.

The only reason we have file folders within hanging file folders is that if we need to present files to a client or to a manager, we can take the entire file folder with that information to the client or manager.

I have been an admin for about five-and-a-half years and have worked in a construction company, an investment firm and for a large publishing firm. I feel as if I have created a historic moment within the company, by (most likely) becoming its first male administrative assistant. I never found it weird or uncomfortable.

I used to work as a bank teller and had the radio in the background as well, but from my past 9 years of experience working in offices (and I went through quite a few different companies and locations) is that "most" offices are quiet, for the most part.
