Of course that usually doesnt happen at work so I take about an hour of my home time, but it is well worth it the next day. I finally had a chance to sit down and read your book over the holiday. Of course the simple solution would be to have the same password for every aspect of your life, but nope that doesn’t work. Of course even if the system hadnt crashed, I would have needed to know my server and Outlook password so I could get into my sub-folder with all my passwords? But they refuse to help me out.

I booked one of my former bosses on a flight to Toronto. I printed his e-ticket and had everything prepared for his travel. Linda (our travel agent) was obviously having a bad day. Years ago, when I worked for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), I took a training course on a Telex machine. Excellent material!

Give the task to an assistant and we will work with everyone involved and not only set up the meeting date and time, but book the boardroom, photocopy and distribute the meeting materials and arrange the flight and hotel if necessary. Of course if you are not licensed to do a particular job, or qualified, then you should not do it.

Of course, the inverse also works. But even if you don’t go to such lengths, the key to surviving downtimes is to make sure you have copied your address book over to all your email accounts. The key to quick transitions, I’ve found, is to keep local copies of all emails. I even do this with my Gmail accounts.
