Of course the simple solution would be to have the same password for every aspect of your life, but nope that doesn’t work. And do we really have to change our work passwords every 60 days, and why can’t I use the same password I used a year ago? I kinda liked that one, but nope I can’t reuse the old password.

Try to anticipate the need so you can have the file or the answer your boss needs, before he or she even knows they need it. A good assistant knows just where to find the document or file needed, or they won’t stop looking till they do. Be one step ahead of your boss. Be protective of your boss’s time. Be creative.

At one office I worked in we had a mail cart with slots for everyones mail, but it was filed First name, Last name. the phone book, standard filing practices etc.) This goes for filing and also how your contacts are ordered in Outlook. If you open the contact card you will see in the first section File As. Click on this.

Ctrl + Home moves the cursor to the beginning of the open file or document and Ctrl + End moves the cursor to the end of the open file or document, but if you are in the middle of a document and want to select everything from there down, press Ctrl + Shift + End or if you want to select everything from there up, press Ctrl + Shift + Home.

Tried and True Method: I set up 12 hanging file folders labelled January through to December. I then put the items in a two-fold file folder with his calendar printed out on the one side and the items he will need for the day on the other side. The system I use is quite simple and has been around for a long time.

I use hanging file folders labelled from January through to December. They are legal-sized folders, because I like a lot of space, but letter size would work just as well. Every afternoon before I leave for the day, I go through the hanging file for that month to see if there is anything I need to bring forward for the next day.

When a meeting is finalized, I put the scheduling sheet in a completed file. Taking stock We don't know what we don't know ► June (1) Playing nice in the sandbox ► May (2) Whose meeting is it anyway? After the meeting happens, then I can safely throw it in the recycling bin or shredder as appropriate.

This is useful if you want to file the email and change the Subject line to something that better describes what the email is about or to put notes in the email. You can also attach a file from Word, Excel or PowerPoint or a business card from your Contacts if it is someone you need to remember to call and want that information available.

Keep an organized filing system and file list. If your boss tends to misplace things when they get it, make an extra copy for your file before giving it to them. You will also feel more in control of the situation and less stressed. Although you have to be careful they dont pile everything on you. 5, 2010 at 12 p.m.

Or if you want to attach a file, choose Attach File. Sometimes I find a simple procedure can be made more complicated than it really is so responded that a cut and paste from Excel to Word should do the trick. She was amazed. All this time she had been right clicking and choosing Insert row each time she needed another row.

This can be as simple as having hanging file folders marked from January to December and then you just put items in the appropriate month that you need to bring forward for your boss. He can ignore e-mails, but it is hard to ignore me :) When you are copied on an e-mail, read the whole message, don’t just skim it.

Normally, I put something about needing to get my filing system up to date, but I think I may have missed the point when I have done that. I never know what to put down. Get any files they may need as a result of the e-mail correspondence. Going through some major organizing and filing here at our office and this is another 'a propos' topic that hits home. This in turn makes us very busy as well. My boss expects me to not only read his e-mails, but to open and read the attachments as well.

Is the clock on the wall deciding how much effort you will put into finding an answer? Or do you just not want to try? I have found that in most situations there is usually a way around it. Why not start looking at your roadblock as a hurdle instead? You should view it as a momentary setback to be overcome.
