The woman stepped back, said, “Well, I guess now we have a director,” meaning that Fanning had finally shown she had the assertiveness necessary for the job, and walked out. She had discovered the power of asserting herself and, in doing so, freed herself from being bullied, backstabbed or stepped on. It’s not an easy rut to escape.

Like all other PA’s I book lunches, travel arrangements, hotels and meeting rooms. I currently work in an area that deals with ministerial correspondence and court review work so I am involved in drafting responses to the public, solicitors, MSP’s and accountants. I can honestly say no 2 days are the same. What do you do for lunch?

One of the criticisms I’ve faced over the years is that I’m not aggressive enough or assertive enough or maybe somehow, because I’m empathetic, it means I’m weak. Last week I wrote about performance reviews and although I’m still not sure that the majority of performance reviews are all that helpful, especially for assistants. Are there review points throughout the course of the objective? The methodology and any training for staff to be completed by Q2. Personal objectives.

The quiet quitters do not feel empowered to assert themselves to their leaders about the root problems, so they justify their mediocre performance with thoughts such as; “ Why should I work so hard?
