Having booked business travel to Houston more times than I can actually remember I am very aware of how little time executives have when they arrive in Houston. Most business travellers attend their meetings and leave so I always try to book my executives into a hotel that allows them to see at least a little bit of Houston.

The walls are lined with shelves packed full of brightly coloured books, which on closer inspection are modern classics. The restaurant was booked for a private event – showing how popular the space and the food is – so that evening I had dinner in the lobby area. Why book Le Méridien for your boss?

I have booked hundreds of serviced apartments over the years and the quality can be extremely varied. The kitchen was fully equipped (I must confess I ordered a takeaway) and the space was big enough for those wanting to do a little work before retiring to the super comfortable bed. Why book Go Native for your boss?

On the ground floor of the hotel the space did look well maintained with a variety of flexible rooms and AV equipment. Why book the Doubletree for your boss? Advertised minimum rate is $149 per person (March 2014). Well the location is perfect both for business and leisure. Opinions are entirely our own.

I have booked hundreds of business trips to Houston over the years (for the oil and gas industry it is the centre of the universe) so I was really excited to see the city for the first time myself. The living area is open plan with a very well equipped kitchen, beautiful seating area with an extremely comfortable sofa and flat screen TV.
