Employment opportunities and salary. In 2013 we saw a massive rise in the number of conferences, events, exhibitions and seminars for assistants and this will increase even more so in 2014. The best restaurants may only be in town for a short period of time so assistants will have to stay on the ball to get table reservations.

As wonderful as online learning can be, going to a live conference or seminar with other assistants is something that you should try to do a few times a year. I have asked for a raise however, but it was after I considered a move somewhere else and wasnt sure I wanted to go, so gave my employer a chance to match the new salary and they did.

I was having a conversation with Deb Ng of Freelance Writing Gigs on Twitter , and I smirked at her comment. Who said it was smart to give a one-hour free seminar, speech or workshop almost every single day? That salary came from advertising purchased by business to air on my station. I make less than I did when I was salaried.
