This is helpful when you need to refer back to remind yourself of the direction or to remind your boss of an action he or she asked you to do. When I meet with my boss or one of the Directors about that particular meeting, I always have my folder to refer to. I find it useful to date the page each time you meet.

We get used to some things and start referring to them by our pet names. We generally referred to the file number as the matter number. I have noticed in the States they refer to something called a 401 when they are discussing pensions. In both law firms I worked at we called the different files we worked on matters.

Today we still use the cc, but it is commonly referred to as a "courtesy copy", although I have still heard it referred to as a carbon copy. Today Whether you refer to a cc as a courtesy copy or a carbon copy, the most common way I have seen it typed is c.c. refers to a blind carbon copy. refers to a blind carbon copy.

I used to joke with my former boss that when he did something good, it was a team effort, and I always referred to those times as we did this or that, but when he did something wrong it was his alone. Of course we are human so mistakes will be made, but even in that we can own up to our mistakes and learn from them and move on.

You will most likely be given the staff phone list and an organization chart. If not, ask for it. You want to avoid asking the same questions over and over.

The phone book is filed alphabetically and you can always use that as a reference. For example - Robb, P. comes before Robb, Patricia. But my teacher in highschool always used to say, "When in doubt, look in the phone book". Although if you look at the attached PDF 1 you will note that they don't agree with my teacher on the phone book idea.

I dont mind being referred to as someones assistant. My current boss always refers to me as his colleague, both to those within our company and to external contacts when referring them to me. Ask if you can refer them to someone else in the office who may be able to help them. I would give the person the benefit of the doubt and would assume that they normally would not behave like that. They are probably under a lot of stress due to a deadline or a situation that may have happened and they are taking that stress out on you.

This is commonly referred to as multi-tasking or juggling your workload. I need to check my voicemail when I see the red light is flashing on my phone. An AA does not have as much say about planning their day. We are "at your service" so to speak, which is the nature of the AA position.

You could also open a folder in Outlook for Telephone Messages if that would be useful to refer back to. I send telephone messages to my boss by email rather than writing it on a telephone message pad. That way it won't get lost in the pile and saves on paper. I always identify myself and give my title.

When we finally finished everything we had to do, I got excellent reference letters from both of them and was able to secure a job within days. The CEO and President who started the company took a chance on a good idea, but it didn’t work out for them. We had really gotten to know each other during this difficult time. It was also helpful to me as an assistant as I could refer to my To-Do list to let my boss know where I was at on a project and how my schedule looked. With the To-Do list we now had a clear and concise way to gauge if we were able to take on new projects and how many we could handle.

Coming from a legal background, we were always taught if you are using an acronym or initialism in writing, on the first use you should spell it out and then put the acronym in brackets, which makes a lot of sense and saves a lot of head scratching and searching the document to figure out what the person is referring to. 411 Look Up 411.ca

Sometimes I refer my tasks to my special bins, for example if I am waiting for information from someone so I can complete a letter, I will put the file with my notes in my "Wait Bin" and put a task in to remind myself to check to see if I received a reply to my enquiry so I can follow up and not just let the file sit in my "Wait Bin".
