Over the last few years there are plenty more online communities and in more recent times we have taken networking to a whole new level with local networks, organised by assistants, springing up all over the place. Meeting other assistants who work near by, who share the same suppliers, hotels, restaurants etc.

I think she was trying to say, “It’s up to you. Self-discipline starts with your thoughts, so pack up the blame game. Own up to your multitasking. In my article on ideas for shaking up 2013, I mentioned the dependence we have on habit. The supplier doesn’t like the new product you designed. Be accountable.”

When I joined IKEA in 1990, I worked with the start-up group to introduce IKEA retail in East Europe (Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovak (latter Czech Republic and Slovakia), and Yugoslavia). In one of my later assignments, I helped set up the Artificial Intelligence ethical practice and structure for a start-up in Australia.
