Hochwarter over the phone. I've also interviewed people who are like deer frozen in the headlights, refusing to retrain in a dead-end profession or just sending out resumes to big job boards. Destroying someone's self esteem doesn't actually make them better. I would love to see it myself.

Again, I want to learn how to cope with it for my career (this is a major position for a resume) because I know it's him and not me. Or it could be that he is just mentally ill, has some sort of addiction, or low self esteem. And congrats on landing the interview! In some cases staying a year could be enough.
