Any time you interview where this situation occurs you are allowed to ask very politely. In light of Enron and a lot of these CEO scandals you should be interviewing your boss and about the role as well.

After all solicitors, medical doctors etc all have to be formally qualified and people assume the same of accountants. I recently set up a small publishing business and interviewed half a dozen accountants before settling on a local chap who was brave enough to publish his fees on the web.
