The phone should be on the desk as near to your keyboard and computer screen as possible. I once made the mistake of having my phone at one end of my desk to my computer screen so I had plenty of room around me, but obviously I couldn’t look anything up while I was on the phone. I wasn’t that silly for long!

IAAP has a magazine that comes with being a member called OfficePro and it has very useful articles. Too much information.
