I did this by becoming a member of IAAP. My self-esteem grew by leaps and bounds as I became more active in IAAP. I then asked how my manager’s role fit into the company’s goals. Before you can change the executive’s perspective of your role, you must first change your own perspective.

If you want to loose 20 pounds, set small goals like change your eating habits, park farther from the store entrance, or reduce your serving portions. If you want to find a new job, first set the goal of updating your resume. Set goals that are manageable and attainable.

We aren't in the same office anymore, but we now meet monthly to go to our local chapter's IAAP dinner meeting and then spend the drive home catching up on what each of us is up to. If employees are working toward a common goal with people they genuinely like, they will in turn have a shared sense of camaraderie and will be more productive.
