It says a lot when your boss wants to grow you within the company and promote you. I would also volunteer at work and socialize with my co-workers during the holiday gift wrapping parties. I mentored other younger assistants. I will find a job with a boss that is humble and smart and a team that is friendly and kind.

That one unassuming, non-meaty, first temp gig got me my first CEO EA job and eventually my promotion to project manager down the road. Know your goal and work backwards and figure out a vague flexible timeline of goals and promotions needed. Just being in their presence means being informally mentored by osmosis.
