We started an online education company, which has exponentially multiplied our ability to reach people in ways in-person events and seminars never could. Equally true: The gifts are always there. Now, this may all sound like a very optimistic way to view stressful situations. Here’s what I know: The bad stuff is always there.

When you go to a seminar with a really charismatic person, you have the feeling [of], Oh, I can trust this person. A gift of presence. But perhaps her greatest charismatic gift is her almost palpable concern for others. And just as in a physical assault, you can experience a fight-or-flight response fueled by stress hormones.
