One of the most surprising things for me was to learn that not all companies will give you an expense account or a company credit card. The company will ask that you charge everything from business travel to catered lunches on your credit card and they will reimburse you. Have money for group gifts. Have enough credit.

Whenever I meet people for coffee or a meal, I am always interested to learn about them as a person and their work. I love doing informationals because I like learning about what people do, even if I am not in that industry, and perhaps get an office tour down the line, and make a new friend if they introduce me to someone else.

The point of the above exercise is to figure out if the solution is something that can be fixed with a little action/daily maintenance (go on vacation, take better care of yourself, respectively) or will take long term planning and goals/strategy (move closer to family or save enough money to travel for a year).
