Despite my passion for social media I haven’t always been adept at it and was a twitter virgin until The Assist Conference 2015. You can follow and connect with other Assistants, clients, colleagues, suppliers, brand ambassadors and influencers. Hashtags are not exclusive to twitter.

Twitter is great for networking and hearing from other assistants, LinkedIn is great for professional development and job hunting, Facebook is useful for interesting articles and receiving updates from relevant companies. Do use social media to engage with potential suppliers and resources for the office.

Facebook and Twitter are not only good marketing tools; they can offer companies the opportunity to interact directly with customers, and instantly address any bad PR in an appropriate manner. It’s a good idea to cut ties to bad suppliers too.

There were many free training sessions for assistants to attend and the exhibitors were all relevant suppliers to the industry which again is not always the case with these types of events! I took a few pictures, posted them on Facebook and also on Twitter. I tweeted about the show, the speakers and the content.

Meeting other assistants who work near by, who share the same suppliers, hotels, restaurants etc. We have a Twitter account @edinburghpa and a Facebook page , which is mostly run by Sherien and we also have a private LinkedIn group. While Facebook or Twitter might be working reasonably well, you might be able to enjoy even more customer engagement if you tried audience outreach via livestreaming video or audio broadcasts. Consider connecting with global suppliers to discover new products or reworking the products you already offer. and it works great!
