I have some clients whose friending policy is to accept all connection requests. In this case, it makes no difference whether they accept them with their own keyboard clicks, or whether I do so for them. This is no different than the pre-email days, when most correspondence was hard copy.

They seemed surprised that I didnt know she had an alcohol problem because they told me you could smell the booze off her every day, but of course I hadnt noticed. it requires a firm culture that discusses recovery openly and strongly support it -both in action and written policy. In other words, I wanted to be able to access my email, calendar, tasks, and notes from anywhere. I’m referring to star constellations, of course. They include Better Keyboard, Math Works, Brain Genius, DroidLive, Pandora, Movies, Where!, Google Apps did everything except Tasks. Get your mind out of the gutter!

His emails are usually brief, casual, and mention something like, “Have a nice weekend,” or “Hope everything’s good with you.” So it was weird to get an email that was so stilted and formal that it sounded like it was written by the Queen of England’s chamberlain to someone she was too polite to outright call a waste of space.

Alright, well, I know he emailed me to let me know I had a broken link in a post. And I know he was interested in what that link led to, which made me think well of him, so I emailed him back. In less than 5 emails, in fact. This is perhaps my most important rule of thumb, whether writing books, blog posts, or emails.

It would be much easier to keyboard it but I know it wouldn’t have the same effect as writing it by hand. I do feel much more comfortable with a keyboard than hand though. But after that, the defrag or spring cleaning of course. But, of course, you’re 100% right. I get hand cramps! Why I want a man cave.

DO NOT look at a single work email after that. Your quick email check becomes a written response, some analysis, and finally that little voice says, “What the heck. It’s really easy to get sucked in to one more email and lose an entire evening. You have plenty of time left for that client. I might as well just do it.&#
