I lost my confidence. Over the years, I’d developed contacts, partners and skills, and I had the industry reputation necessary to put together a contract this big. I was caught in the middle of a scandal, between one supplier and thousands of people I made promises to. I lost my business. I lost my savings. I lost my house.

The moral of the story is that assistants have a huge amount of skills and can add value in a number of areas within the workplace, we just need to have the confidence to promote ourselves. During the conference, we will have a session on confidence in the workplace, but let’s look at areas assistants can add value.

In all of these circumstance we do need to be able to communicate with them and be confident in what we are saying. But in all of those circumstances it really has made me stronger and actually more confident because I’ve told myself I’m trying here and if I’ve managed to get a laugh out of them or a bit of information I’ve done well!
