Set clear goals. When you define your desired outcome for your event, you can streamline your decision-making because you will know if an idea does, or does not, help you reach your event goals. It may seem obvious, but you want to make sure that the space where you choose to host your event supports your event goals.

For many organizations, volunteers can make the difference between successfully delivering services or program or falling short of their goals. Include it in your regular newsletter, whether electronic or paper. Ask current committee members to circulate the posting or suggest potential names.

In a previous role I managed 12 Committees all of which had a special interest in different areas of accountancy. I attended all of the Committee meetings and took all of the minutes. I would also talk to the members during refreshment breaks and read all of the supporting documents along with their regular newsletters.

Articulate a short term “next step” goal or current position/strength [“I dream of pursuing a position working with CVX heritage documents” or, “I have extensive experience in Angolan travel and visa preparations.”].
