However, even after taking many classes on the various programs I still haven’t gotten any new tasks. I would like to get better assignments, promoted, or get a raise before a few more years go by. It’s such a shame that there aren’t more managers who are good mentors that help each individual grow and learn more in their roles.

I have taken several courses and classes. Yes, I have taken job-specific software classes, classes to learn organizational and people skills, and took computer certification classes which I was not aware I needed coming right out of high school. Again, these are skills I was able to cultivate on the job.

Some have lost jobs, didn’t get promotions or pay raises, or lost funding due to employer budget cuts. My advice is to grab a member and become a mentor or get mentored! I am thankful for the new skills I have received and the old skills I have improved. Or do you have a question, call a member!

Those who help the company become more innovative or strategic will make themselves key players – and those are the people a company is more likely to retain and promote. Ask your boss for opportunities to train in other departments, or to attend seminars or classes at a local university. Find a mentor. Get more training.

She mentors, trains, and coaches EA/AAs across the region. I actually at graduation, when they put like the sash around you, I I was like, top 10% of my class, which I had no idea. So that’s probably how I got into top 10% of my class, but so then I was planning to go to college. Based on their skill set and their level?

Employers have always complained about a lack of hard and soft skills. They’re sick of being blamed.

I am not sure how to cultivate this skill or get better at it. It’s a little harder to cultivate that skill set because it’s so vague or it entails many minute things so miniscule they are hard to pin point. I have been here less than a year, and my responsibilities have increased in some ways. No one is perfect.

But in terms of pursuing skill sets, some employees don’t want to pursue skill sets after a while. They’re still mentors. So they have manageable team sizes. They know their employees well.

Or they will say they want people to be in the training program or how previous assistants have gotten promoted after a couple of years if they were the right fit. Be willing to do anything and learn a lot of different skill sets and software programs so you are indispensable. Tread carefully and speak humbly when you negotiate.

The amount of skill, pressure, stress, and problem solving differs at each of those levels. Believe it or not, some assistant jobs actually prefer you have an Ivy League degree even if they ask for a career assistant or to promote them up the chain. I would rather go to a pilates studio that has classes late at night that fits my work hours vs going to a gym that only costs $30 a month. I can only assume you get one, and there is a section about goals, improvements, things you want to learn/change, or some sort of feedback about maybe even getting promoted out.
