I have people following me on Twitter who say things like, “Hey, if you’re looking for new writing markets, you should try this website.” I get snail mail from credit card companies who could not possibly have my new mailing address unless they scammed it off some list. My biggest pet peeve at the moment is Twitter.

My house is littered with ideas scribbled on the back of old business cards (I have accumulated quite a few of those in my nomadic career and wanted to put them to good use). I also own three digital voice recorders (one for the house, one for the car, and one in my laptop travel case – did I mention I have OCD?)

I also can use the recording to make a cd and give to potential clients or current clients instead of a business card or brochure. Most people remember to click the "share on Facebook" (or Twitter, Digg, etc.) Then transcribe the two together, so that you have a text version to use in FAQ or a blog post on your web site.

I was having a conversation with Deb Ng of Freelance Writing Gigs on Twitter , and I smirked at her comment. People even imply and suggest (or at least the Twitter gang did) that bloggers should be ashamed of asking for money, for any kind of payment for that solid advice and knowledge. Time to think about the retirement fund.&#
