The staffing agent asked if I was open to temp to perm, even though the position was for a full time EA, he feels the CEO may need time to see if it is a good fit. I have no idea how long "temp" is considered before they would offer the permanent position. It feels like a bait and switch and there are no guarantees.

Tell us your story on how you went from temping in LA to being the EA of high-profile CEOs. I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. I learned through informational interviews that I should apply to temp agencies. I opened the phone book and signed up with every single one in town.

Take personality tests, read books, talk to people. State you’d love to be an EA and learn so much you can be promoted to coordinator, director, manager. Even asking to intern, shadow, or be mentored by someone well respected is a great first step. Become as self aware as possible regarding your beliefs, values, and principles.

It says a lot when your boss wants to grow you within the company and promote you. I mentored other younger assistants. I started this blog while temping/job hunting and I was allowed to write or do personal side projects as long as it was not interfering with my work. So, many kudos to you for getting to where you are now!

And as I was working, job hunting and/or temping, I had to find other sources of happiness. I would rather buy used books on half.com vs driving in Los Angeles traffic to go the library for free books. Write a book, learn a new language with headphones on and Rosetta Stone or youtube videos. 3) Have a strategy.
