Just like plants need wind to grow, writers need some reassurance that they are not just going at it alone each time they sit at the keyboard. Many writers—as half of our population-at-large and 60% of gifted kids—are introverts. I was checking out books on Amazon a couple months ago, but couldn’t decide despite the reviews.

Now, my theory is that King didn’t get to write pretty darn good stuff every single time he sat down at the table just because he was genetically gifted with brilliance. It would be much easier to keyboard it but I know it wouldn’t have the same effect as writing it by hand. He’s been doing it for too long. I get hand cramps!

For example, if you sell a book for $10, you might sell a workbook for $40. I feel the gift of speech need to be leveraged. Solomon – I feel that being able to discuss, talk and look at all sides of the coin is a gift, and yet so many people ignore the opportunity to ask questions, go deeper and learn more.

When I am putting together an editing report or when I am fact-checking – I often work on books that match subject areas I studied. Going back to school was the best gift I could give myself. Do I write routinely about Policy and Management or about Labor Relations? Years later, I run an editing and writing business.

Elizabeth Gilbert, who wrote a book called Eat, Pray Love , once gave a TED speech that suggested creative people are pretty emotionally twisted. Just once in a while… I find I have those moments as well, and if you’re not right there with the pen or the keyboard, then you’ve lost it. Do you think that’s true? Definitely.
