No matter if you are a one-person show or you have a business that has many employees, unless you have business processes in place, you may find the business growing "out of control." Make them too complex -- They over-engineer the processes and ultimately do not do them because it is too complex.

Dont play with your phone. While you may know enough to mute your phone during an interview, you also cant even look at it. When youre further into the interviewing process, you may be invited to have a meal, but in the beginning stages just focus on the questions, not your latte. And dont put any buttons or stickers on it.

We (and the tech we use) has moved so far beyond the days when it was “strange” and “uncommon” to have an email address or a domain.

Turn their phone onto vibrate. Getting people to stick to the rules is a whole other blog post, but at least have the fundamentals in place is a good start. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that people need white space to help process their thoughts so regular breaks during long meetings will help with productivity.

The notetaking and commenting in the book makes me engage with it and be active in the process. For immediate responses, nothing replaces a phone call.
