As soon as you get an email or piece of paper, deal with it. If I flag it for later I at least say I got their email. Oftentimes, they have never met me, but may recall my name or my boss’ name when I mention it over the phone. In all emails with other assistants we started referring to our bosses by initials only.

You also have more negotiating leverage for a better salary and projects. HR will usually call 2-3 people for a quick phone chat. Email them saying you’d love 2-3 sentences if they feel comfortable commenting on how you did x, y, z on the _ project. Short of that, looking for a new job elsewhere is your second best bet.
