  I don't care what tool you receive your e-mail in, you still have to manage it or it will run you.  Unlike traditional e-mail, Google Apps utilizes labels instead of a folder system for e-mail sorting and storage.   I'm not of that school of thought.  Do The Dump! a little more control over email.

I have a similar system with my boss. I put travel in red and action reminders in yellow, but that is our own system and it works for us. but I don't use that system or know what the colours mean. Use that feature to set reminders (which everyone uses it for anyway). Another one I never use. I LOVE the color feature.

Of course the simple solution would be to have the same password for every aspect of your life, but nope that doesn’t work. And do we really have to change our work passwords every 60 days, and why can’t I use the same password I used a year ago? I kinda liked that one, but nope I can’t reuse the old password.

Bring Forward System or Using Tasks in Outlook Have a system to follow up on items your boss has asked you to do or things you know you need to do. I love this system and at the end of each day I go through my folder and pull out what I need for the next day. I also use Tasks in Outlook to follow up on electronic items.

If you don’t have e-mail folders, create some and sort messages as they are received. Check: Do you have a system for prioritizing your workload? Be sure to include call-back windows if you leave a message so you won’t be interrupted while working on an important task. Check: Do you plan for tomorrow?

Maintaining a good bring-forward system is important to have things ready when needed. A good assistant knows just where to find the document or file needed, or they won’t stop looking till they do. Having a good filing system and keeping the file list up to date is something every assistant needs to be able to do.

A good bring-forward system is a must for this as you will want to bring forward items they will need for meetings and conference calls. Keep an organized filing system and file list. Normally, I put something about needing to get my filing system up to date, but I think I may have missed the point when I have done that. All you need is to put some time aside and close your door, or put some earphones on, and plug into your computer and learn. I have had great experiences learning online in interactive courses.
