For me I know I can work pretty much flat out for about three months but then I need to have a holiday otherwise I can get run down and just a bit grumpy. And we are even more available if we have laptops and business phones. I don’t want to be checking my phone, or answering emails when I am in their company.

It detailed all of the department’s procedures including a large section on administration, such as holiday requests and ordering meeting rooms. Can they get the information themselves or is that you struggle to be assertive with lazy colleagues – can you say ‘no’ more often? Implement an Executive Voicemail system.

Don’t answer the phone or e-mail. That will give you the confidence to manage your work assertively. When it isn’t, explain the impact changing your schedule carries for other assignments. That explanation encourages better planning the next time. Set aside time for yourself Set the first two hours of your day for yourself.

We need to be assertive and show our bosses how much better they can function if the administrative jobs are taken care of by us.
